“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!” Dr. Seuss
This week was filled with so many activities that it was hard to pick the highlight. All week was fantastic, from birthday parties, carnival, field day, and picnic.
Kite. We tested a different type of kite, made with just a plastic bag and string. We had a good windy day so we enjoyed running around with our kite. We compared it with the paper bag kite and concluded that the plastic bag was easier to fly, but why. After hearing all answers, many students agreed that the plastic bag filled with air easier and could fly more than the paper bag.
Presentations. This week we took two indoor tours; the first was to Ms. Lisa’s classroom to listen to her class give a presentation on the Rainforest. They showed us the animals they made and told us what they learned about them. The second tour was a mini-museum from Ms.Anna W’s and Mr. Chris’ classes. They presented to us their dioramas and explained each section of their museums, including amazing dish pieces they made out of clay. I was surprised that students enjoyed the mini-museums so much that they didn’t want to leave.
Butterflies. We had enjoyed our precious butterflies for a week, and although difficult for us, we had to let them go. We loved watching them feed off fruit (that we shared from our lunch) and nectar from a flower. The most exciting thing was looking at the proboscis up close; it does look mesmerizing. After discussing how important it was for them to fly free, we chose a good spot near flowers, just in case, and freed them. We released all four butterflies. Unfortunately, our fifth one did not make it since it died over the weekend. We were impressed at how fast they could fly and were happy they grew strong wings so they could.
Field day. Friday was so much fun; we started with a game of water frisbee fill, then continued with a water balloon toss, 3-legged race, scooter race, wheelbarrow race, tug of war, and more. We loved the water games, but the overhead bucket game was our favorite. Finally, we enjoyed our lunch outside. We had a blast! (more field day pictures on parent notes.)
We kept ourselves busy preparing a booklet for someone special; it is a secret, so I cannot tell. Stay tuned.
